To make the right trading decisions, it is essential to know the fundamental market situation and figure out the reasons markets trade the way they do. As an Energy Analyst you will sit side-by-side with a seasoned trader, who will turn your natural talents into well-defined skills applicable to the energy market. You will become an expert on what factors drive the energy market, and how to assess them to identify the best trading opportunities.

When starting as an Energy Analyst in the US power markets, you will first learn about the main drivers within energy markets in our in-house training program. You will also learn what kind of data we use and how we use it. Once you are familiar with our processes and data flows, you will be responsible for building and further optimizing the trading models. You will perform data checks and optimize trading strategies in close cooperation with the traders on the desk, as well as with our Data Engineers and Data Scientists. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data interpretation and model building: Identify key drivers of power prices quantitatively and build models to predict them.
  • Develop a Trader's Mindset: Work together with traders regularly to gain firsthand knowledge of energy market fundamentals and understand their specific needs.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze market data, identify trends, and opportunities that give the team a competitive edge.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Be part of a multidisciplinary team that fosters learning, innovation, and growth in a collaborative environment.
  • Tool Development: Design, build, and deploy high-performance analytical tools that process data. Your team is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving these tools and ensuring that the data is correct from source to tool.
  • Data Visualization: Create, manage, and maintain complex dashboards using various technologies. You will learn to choose the right solution for different use cases and ensure the dashboards are tailored to the traders' needs.
  • Automation: Streamlining and automating workflows where possible to ensure the smooth execution of tasks during the trading shift, allowing traders to focus fully on the market without distractions.
  • Adaptability & Learning: Keep pace with both technological advancements and shifting energy market demands.  

What we ask

  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrable experience in the US power markets
  • An analytical or quantitative degree at the MSc or PhD level 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new technique
  • Affinity for meteorology
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL or similar programming languages
  • An interest in trading or financial markets
  • Fluency in English

Location: The training part for this vacancy takes place in the Netherlands. To enhance collaboration in a dynamic trading environment, you will be working closely with our traders.
